Filmmaker Mark Pedri had never heard his grandfather Silvio’s story despite spending nearly every day together for 10 years. It wasn’t until after Silvio’s death that Mark found an archive of old photos, letters, and documents detailing Silvio’s journey as a Prisoner of War in World War II.

Texas-born regional Mexican singer, Pepe Aguilar, is credited with being one of the pioneers in bringing charro and mariachi culture to modern international audiences. As part of the Fair’s Domingueando en la Feria, which will feature Latin-themed entertainment, the concert at this year’s San Diego County Fair's Toyota Summer Concert Series will be performed in Spanish. Aguilar has sold over 13 million albums worldwide, which has earned him four GRAMMYS, five Latin Grammy Awards, nineteen Lo Nuestro Awards, and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Taking a page out of his own history, "La Dinastía Aguilar" (The Aguilar Dynasty), Pepe Aguilar started singing at a young age alongside his well known parents, singer/songwriter and actor, Antonio Aguilar and singer/actress of the Golden Age of Mexican cinema, Flor Silvestre. Just like his own parents, Aguilar has paved the way for his own children, Leonardo Aguilar and Ángela Aguilar, in the Latin music genre.
