Tuminas creates, explores and comprehends destinies, paradoxes, madness, love, joy and despair. The world he presents to the audience is a beautiful, aesthetic, theatrical and fragile one, but one at constant risk of being destroyed by the ominous comet that is already in the sky above. This time the program will highlight our most requested topic in the series, La Jolla's Role in Science. We welcome Meenakshi Wadhwa, Director of the La Jolla Scripps Institute of Oceanography and the influential woman who is shaping La Jolla’s SIO landscape. In 1903, our benefactor Ellen Browning Scripps directly funded the founding of the Scripps Institute of Oceanography, including the first permanent laboratory and our beloved pier. Today the SIO focuses on marine biology, climate change and conservation, earth science and ocean and human health.
