Neighbor Testifies Against Bilbray's Residence

A Carlsbad man has stepped forward to announce publicly that he was subpoenaed last August as a witness in a grand jury investigation of Congressman Brian Bilbray’s primary residence. KPBS reporter Alison St John has more.

William Rider’s announcement confirms a grand jury did investigate whether Bilbray actually lived in Carlsbad before the Special 50th congressional district election. Bilbray stated - under penalty of perjury- that he did, on his voter registration form. Rider who lives about 6 houses away from the house Bilbray claimed as his residence, says he did not see Mr. Bilbray there before the election.

Rider: and if he lived there at some point I must conclude that I would have seen him or his family or different cars, but not until some date after he was elected, did I see different cars there.

Bilbray’s office says if a grand jury had concluded there was enough credible evidence to prove Bilbray did not live there, it would have issued its report by now. Bilbray accuses the Democratic Party of politicizing the issue days before the election. Alison St John KPBS news.
