Climate Study Shows Bleak Future

Scientists say the world's future is bleak if nothing is done to control global warming. Emissions of greenhouse gases get the blame for rising air and ocean temperatures.

Scientists say the world's future is bleak if nothing is done to control global warming. Emissions of greenhouse gases get the blame for rising air and ocean temperatures. The United Nations-sponsored climate report predicts widespread melting of snow and ice. Lynne Talley is one of three Scripps Institution of Oceanography researchers that worked on the study. Talley says global warming will continue for centuries.

Talley: One sees that the change is here, the change is going to continue. And it will be a whole lot worse if no steps are taken.

Talley says people will have to adapt to a warmer climate with more weather extremes including droughts, floods and heat waves. She says California's climate will likely become warmer, wetter and more tropical.
