San Diego County's new registrar of voters begins her job amid controversy over her hiring. She joins us in studio to address her past work as a sales representative for a company that sold the county

Controversy Surrounds New San Diego County Registrar

Alison St John (Guest Host): The San Diego County Board of Supervisors meetings are usually quiet affairs, far less controversial than those at the City of San Diego for example. But news of the appointment of Deborah Seiler as the new County Registrar of Voters triggered an angry protest in the Supervisors' Chambers. Seiler has worked as a sales representative for Diebold, the company that sold San Diego County its electronic voting machines.

Opponents of electronic voting say it is an untenable conflict of interest to hire Seiler, at a time when the machines are being studied by the State for possible vulnerability to malfunctions or worse, tampering.

Deborah Seiler has been on the job for just two days, but she's agreed to come on These Days with us to talk about the challenges ahead and answer questions about electronic voting.
