The Association of California Water Agencies is reaching out to residents to tell them about the state's water crisis. The Association is made up of public agencies that are responsible for 90 percent of the water delivered in the state. KPBS reporter Ed Joyce has more.

“California's water, vital to our state's character economy and environment is in crisis, not enough rain and snow, not enough places to store water or channels to deliver it.”

The Association of Water Agencies is using TV, radio and print ads to educate Californians on the state's water woes.

Jennifer Persike is with the ACWA.

Persike : So we are not calling for any solutions or actions in this program. Because what we've learned is the public doesn't really understand the very basics about how water that they use everyday gets to them.

She says the association wants everyone to know about problems with the state's water supply and delivery system. Especially the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta.

A judge ordered the state water project to pump less water to protect an endangered fish. Historic dry conditions and the Delta cutback are expected to reduce water supplies next year.
