Overcrowded emergency rooms seem to be the norm these days. Hospital officials from throughout San Diego County will hold a summit tomorrow to discuss what they're trying to do about it. KPBS Reporter Kenny Goldberg has more.

It's the second annual San Diego County summit on emergency room overcrowding. Officials from all 18 local ERs will share some of their ideas and tips on how to cut down on wait times.

Dr. Roneet Lev works in the ER at Scripps Mercy Hospital. She says there a number of things hospitals can do to move things along.

Lev: Seeing patients in the waiting room, ordering things automatically from the waiting room, figuring out ways how to discharge patients from the hospital earlier.

But Lev says all of these techniques are just band-aids. She says the real problem is hospital emergency care isn't publicly funded like police and fire services.
