City Officials Brainstorm How to Combat Dwindling Water Supply

San Diego city officials are discussing what to do about an increasingly tight regional water supply. KPBS Reporter Alison St John is at city hall this afternoon. She says city officials are grappling with the best course for the future.

St John : The issue of whether recycling water -- the infamous-toilet-to tap version -- or desalination, or conservation: in what order should those three policies be taken? And so they are going to be discussing more carefully -- I think October 24th and 29th -- the very controversial issue about whether to start moving ahead with water reclamation. So, this is the beginning, and I think they really want a lot of public input.

City officials also talked about hiking residential water bills.   That's in response to higher prices from the county agency that sells water to the city.
