SAN DIEGO (CNS) -- San Diego's public radio station KPBS was forced to change frequencies today after its transmitter tower was lost when Mount San Miguel burned.
KPBS, which has been broadcasting nonstop news on the fires in San Diego since Sunday, can now be heard on FM 94.9, an alternative music station, according KPBS spokeswoman Nancy Worlie.
"These are extraordinary times and this is an extraordinary situation," 94.9 DJ Tommy Hough said before KPBS took over. "It's in everyone's best interest to hand over our airwaves to KPBS."
KPBS was previously broadcast on FM 89.5. That frequency was lost when the tower on Mount San Miguel went down about 5:30 a.m.
