Local officials across San Diego County say firefighters will get all the resources available from the state and federal government. KPBS reporter Andrew Phelps has details.

San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders says he's received a call from President Bush with offers to help. Sanders says it's time for San Diegans to help their neighbors get out of their homes safely. Governor Schwarzenegger has ordered 800 National Guard troops to help with the largest evacuation in San Diego County's history.

Sheriff Bill Kolender says this region has never seen wildfires grow so big, so fast.

Kolender : There'll be a lot of issues discussed today concerning causes and trying to fix it and the fact that it's growing and it's the worst fire that the state has ever had. It passes the Cedar Fire.

Local officials agree they have learned a lot from the mistakes of the Cedar Fire. Kolender says the new reverse 9-1-1 system has called tens of thousands of people with evacuation notices.
