Feinstein Calls For 'Catastrophic Coverage' For the Uninsured

Senator Dianne Feinstein is worried that some people who lost their homes in the fires don't have home insurance. KPBS reporter Ed Joyce has that story.

Feinstein criticized one company for refusing to insure homes in the Los Angeles area. She says there's a need for some sort of catastrophic coverage for people without insurance.

Feinstein : Now I have a real objection to insurance companies being able to cherry pick where they're going to insure and where they're not. They have to take in my view, the good with the bad.But this is an increasing problem, it's difficult to get insurance. We need to look at the federal law to see what we can do to develop an emergency federal program that provides catastrophic insurance for people in just this situation.

Feinstein spoke with Alan Ray on KPBS radio.
