The King Chavez charter school group already has five small campuses in Logan Heights that cater to Latino students in the inner city neighborhood.

Charter school official Tim Wolfe believes King Chavez students will continue to improve if they can attend a high school that's like their charter schools. He says two of the existing campuses are already making a difference with test scores.

Chavez: It's the poorest of kids in this country, 95 to 98 percent Latino. About 60 percent English language learners. So the fact that we can have those kinds of test scores with these kinds of students, it's a pretty successful achievement.

District officials have questions about the kind of specific teaching strategies the high school will use for its English learners. San Diego school board members will consider the King Chavez proposal at its meeting tomorrow.
