El Brindis

SDLFF Audience Winner El Brindis returns for a week-long engagement (Agosin Films)

I missed El Brindis (opening October 17 for one week only at the UltraStar Mission Valley Theaters at Hazard Center) earlier this year at the San Diego Latino Film Festival and I haven't had a chance to screen it for its upcoming release. But since it won the festival's audience prize I felt it was worth highlighting for anyone who didn't get a chance top see it at SDLFF. The film screens as part of the SDLFF's ongoing series Cinema en tu Idioma showcasing new Latin American, Mexican and Spanish Cinema.

El Brindis features the lovely Mexican film and telenova star Ana Serradilla (from Amas de casa Desesperadas). She plays woman who sets out on a journey from her home in Mexico to be reunited with her Chilean father. But as with most cinematic road trips, there are unexpected detours. In this case she begins a relationship with the rabbi who is preparing her father for his long awaited Bar Mitzvah. The film is a comedy about three people looking for meaning in their lioves. El Brindis was the opening film at Chile's Festival de Vi & ntilde;a Del Mar.

Ethan Van Thillo, director of SDLFF, says, "We're happy to bring back El Brindis to San Diego. As this year's Audience Award winner, it's great to be able to offer more local residents the opportunity to see it. Mexican television and film star, Ana Serradilla, is super in this film and lights-up the screen. Audiences are sure to love El Brindis once they see it."
