Composer Discusses African Folk Influences

Audio

Aired 4/19/09

Originally aired on September 28, 2006.

Tom Fudge : The name Ligeti refers to a multi-generational family of daring contemporary composers. The late Hungarian composer Gyorgi Ligeti was known to a mass audience as a result of being used in several Stanley Kubrick films. His son, Lukas Ligeti, is a composer and percussionist who is heavily influenced by African folk music.

Tonight, the NWEAMO International Festival of Electro-Acoustic Music comes to San Diego. And Lukas Ligeti will pay a tribute to his father with a lecture and a performance. The festival runs through this weekend at San Diego State’s School of Music and Dance.
