July 21, 2008 — Calexico Bulldog football can be heard live across the Imperial Valley this upcoming season on KQVO 97.7 FM.The high school games will be announced by veteran hosts John Moreno and Vic Carrillo starting September 5. Moreno, the vice-principal of Calexico High School, says he’s excited about this season.

“We are thrilled to be going on KQVO, the KPBS affiliate, and win or lose we always have a good time on the air,” Moreno said.Moreno and Carrillo, cousins, are very attached to the Calexico community. They attended Calexico High School where they excelled on the football team and in other sports. They hold masters degrees in Educational Administration from San Diego State’s Calexico campus. They’ve coached sports teams and taught students in Calexico schools. Now they hold administrative positions; Moreno as vice-principal and Carrillo is the Supervisor for District 1 in the Imperial Valley.

Since 1994 the Imperial Valley has heard them announcing play-by-play action on other stations. Moreno says he looks forward to seeing the relationship strengthen between public radio and the community in Imperial Valley.
