3 Plead Guilty In USD Bribery Case

Three men have pleaded guilty in an alleged scheme to fix a University of San Diego basketball game.

U-T San Diego reports Steve Goria, Richard Garmo and Paul Thweni entered pleas to various charges earlier this month and each face up to five years in prison.

They were among 10 people charged with running a sports betting business to fix West Coast Conference games. The others included Brandon Johnson, the school's all-time leading scorer, former coach T.J. Brown and former player Brandon Dowdy.

In their plea agreements, Goria, Garmo and Thweni said they placed Las Vegas casino bets on a 2010 game after bribing Johnson.

Johnson's attorney, Oliver Cleary, declined to comment Wednesday. However, he previously denied throwing the game.
