San Diego State Sets New Record With 81,000 Applications

The number of admissions applications from prospective freshmen or transfer students at San Diego State University set a record for the fourth year in a row, the school announced Thursday.

More than 81,000 applications were received during the fall application period, according to SDSU.

"We are excited to again see record interest in our academic programs," said SDSU president Elliot Hirshman. "This interest reflects the dedicated efforts of our talented faculty and staff members, our growing national reputation and the extraordinary achievements of our alumni and current students."

According to SDSU, undergraduate applications include 58,193 first-time freshmen and 22,816 upper-division transfer students, up 4 and 6 percent respectively over last year.

International students have until May 2015 to apply for admission, so the final application number will be marginally higher. Cal State San Marcos has not yet announced its application figures.

The University of California, including UC San Diego, will announce its statistics next month, according to UCSD.
