Kevin Faulconer Endorsed By San Diego Coalition Of Pastors

A coalition of pastors in southeast San Diego today endorsed Councilman Kevin Faulconer for mayor.

"We got together as a group and decided not to endorse based on party lines," Rickey Laster of the New Assurance Baptist Church said. "We wanted the best person for the (job) regardless of whether they were Republican, Democrat or Independent. Kevin is the experienced candidate with eight years on the City Council and will get the job done."

Don Connelly of the Encanto Southern Baptist Church said Faulconer, who will face San Diego City Council colleague David Alvarez in the Feb. 11 runoff election, is the best candidate to build better infrastructure, find jobs, and help businesses in the neighborhood grow.

The candidates have announced a series of endorsements this week as the campaign heats up following a holiday quiet period. The winner will complete the almost three years remaining in the term of resigned former Mayor Bob Filner.

The Alvarez campaign announced that an endorsement by Pacific Islander leaders is scheduled for Friday.
