San Diego-Based Navy Ships Dedicated To Search For Malaysia Airlines MH370 (Video)

San Diego-based ships from the U.S. Navy's Seventh Fleet have been searching the better part of five days for missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370. Navy officials say as each day passes, the hunt for the vanished plane becomes more difficult.

As Home Post has previously reported, the USS Kidd and USS Pinckney are part of an international search team of 10 nations looking for any signs of MH370, which disappeared after taking off from Kuala Lumpur en route to Beijing early Saturday morning.

CDR Gabe Varela, USS Kidd Commanding Officer, said of the search:

“The entire USS KIDD crew is dedicated to this operation. We are using every capability onboard to help find anything associated with Flight 370.

"If our families were on that flight, I know others would do the same. It was fortunate we were already operating in the South China Sea allowing us to get on station in a timely manner.”
Especially frustrating for the search teams is the fact Malaysian officials aren't clear on where the teams should look. The search area has now grown to 27,000 square miles, according to CNN aviation expert Richard Quest:
"At this stage in the investigation and search and rescue, I would have expected to see by now a much more defined understanding of what the route was, where the plane was headed and a narrowing of the search consequent upon that."
