The San Diego Zoo's youngest giant Panda got her name today. The moniker was chosen from five contenders in an on-line contest. KPBS Reporter Erik Anderson has details.
100 days after becoming the third giant panda cub to be born in San Diego, the black and white bear has a name Su-Lin. Zoo and Chinese officials revealed the winner of the panda name contest just outside the Panda exhibit.
Panda Project Director Don Lindberg says more than 70,000 votes were cast for the winning name.
Lindberg: "Su-Lin was on the list of five finalists for which you had the opportunity to vote. I understand that her margin of victory was almost two to one."
Lindberg says Su-Lin is also the name of the first Panda brought to the United States in the 1930's. He says the young bear is doing well. Su-Lin weighs nearly 10 pounds and is trying to walk. That's normal for a cub 100 days old.
