Joshua Nelson grew up listening to both the cantors in his synagogue and Mahalia Jackson records at his grandmother's house. He speaks about combining the two influences with his Kosher Gospel Band.

Joshua Nelson and the Kosher Gospel Band perform this Saturday at the Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center in La Jolla. Showtime is 7:30 pm.
