Triple-A Spokeswoman Marie Montgomery says gas prices in San Diego have been
going up about a penny a day in the last week. She says the average price for a gallon of self-serve regular is $2.61.

Montgomery says gas prices have set new records every Spring for the past six years.

Montgomery: San Diego does have high prices compared to a lot of other cities in Southern California and there are several reasons for that. One is that there may not be as much competition in the San Diego area as there is the LA-Long Beach area, there's not as much intersections with two and three gas stations on a corner that would be competing with each other."

Montgomery also says gas dealers in San Diego pay higher costs for their supplies.
