Nearly two weeks after Election Day, supporters of a bond initiative for North County's Tri-City Medical Center have all but conceded defeat. The half-a-billion dollar bond measure known as Prop F appears to have lost by less than one percentage point. KPBS Reporter Kenny Goldberg has the story.
Early returns on election night showed Prop F squeaking by. But as more ballots were counted in the succeeding days, the tally dipped below the 66.7 percent majority required for passage.
Tri-City CEO Art Gonzales says he's eager to try one more time. Gonzales says after all, the need for upgraded facilities isn't going away.
Gonzales: So I don't really see that we have an option but going forward again, but with perhaps a revised plan slightly, to get the additional one percent that we need.
Gonzales says it's probably unrealistic to try and pass a similar measure in November. So he says the Tri-City board will have to consider other possibilities, including a special election next year. Kenny Goldberg, KPBS News.
