More than 250,000 low-income and disabled Californians will be switched to new Medicare prescription drug plans next year. Advocates for seniors say they’re concerned about possible disruptions. KPBS Reporter Kenny Goldberg has the story.
Four out of ten California plans that provide Medicare prescription drug coverage to low-income recipients won’t be available next year. Plan officials say displaced recipients will be automatically reassigned to other programs. One official promises the transition will be painless. But attorney Jeanne Finberg with the National Senior Citizens Law Center isn’t so sure.
Finberg: Because it’s a new plan, it means a switch in the computer and a new card, and possibly a new formulary. So it means a lot of confusion for our most vulnerable elderly people.”
Finberg fears if coverage is somehow disrupted, many low-income seniors won’t be able to get their medications. Kenny Goldberg, KPBS News.
