S.D. Welcomes Poinsettia Bowl
San Diego kicks off the college football bowl season when the fledgling Poinsettia Bowl is played on Tuesday. KPBS reporter Erik Anderson has details.
This is the second year for San Diego’s second bowl game. Texas Christian University will battle Northern Illinois at Qualcomm Stadium. Poinsettia Bowl spokesman Mark Neville says about 40,000 tickets have been sold and the game will be on national television. He says he hopes this year’s game does even better that last year’s inaugural event.
Neville: We generated $10 million dollars in economic benefits from the fans that came from outside of San Diego. And that is really what we look at doing and that is why we started a second bowl game in San Diego.
Neville hopes to have better television rating for this year’s game. He says an earlier kickoff and being the season’s first college bowl game should help. Erik Anderson KPBS news
