Tom Fudge: Yesterday, the U.S. attorney for San Diego announced two new indictments in the ongoing Duke Cunningham corruption case. The former congressman has already pleaded guilty to accepting more than two million dollars in bribes.
Yesterday, two co-conspirators were indicted on charges of conspiracy, money laundering and fraud. Brent Wilkes is a former Poway defense contractor who is accused of giving Cunningham hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes. The indictment says the gifts Wilkes gave Cunningham included the services of prostitutes. Foggo is a former CIA man who eventually rose to the number-three position in the spy agency. He is accused of using his influence to enrich Wilkes and his companies.
The story of Wilkes and Foggo begins in Chula Vista, where the two formed a friendship that began in grade school.
