San Diego Police served the leader of the San Diego Minutemen, Jeff Schwilk, and another prominent member of the group with search warrants on Wednesday. The warrants were granted in connection with vandalism at a Rancho Penasquitos migrant camp. KPBS reporter Amy Isackson has details.
Last January, six people sliced up migrant workers’ belongings in the camps. Police say the vandals cut up blankets, clothes and even workers' shoes. A witness provided descriptions, including one woman he recognized from Minutemen rallies. Police later seized videos and a computer from Minutewoman Christie Czajkowski’s home.
Two more search warrants have been served. Attempts to contact Minuteman leader Schwilk failed. Shortly after the police announced the search warrants, a message on Schwilk's cell phone said the number was no longer in service. Julie Adams received the other search warrant. She has been an outspoken critic of migrant camps in McGonigle Canyon and helped organize a Minutemen rally there last November.
