The San Diego School district has officially parted ways with former chief Administrative Officer Jose Betancourt. KPBS Reporter Ana Tintocalis has more.
Betancourt will get six months pay as part of a severance package. The district is only obligated to give Betancourt three months pay, but school trustee John De Beck say the school board voted to give him more money to avoid a potential lawsuit. District officials aren't giving many other details, citing a confidentiality agreement.
Betancourt was in charge of the school district's operations including finance, facilities and transportation. He's credited with reorganizing and streamlining the facilities and maintenance department.
Last month Betancourt pleaded guilty to violating federal conflict of interest laws. He worked for a military contractor too soon after retiring from the Navy.
Betancourt had a year-and-a-half left on his school district contact.
