California's Wage Average Grows Four Percent to $987
California's average weekly wage was up more than four percent in the fourth quarter of last year. The State Bureau of Labor Statistics reports California's average weekly wage was $987. Bureau economist Amarr Mann says that's $126 above the national average.
Mann : Only five other states had higher weekly wages than California. Within the state we see that the highest wages tend to be concentrated in the Bay area in Northern California, and the second being the Los Angeles, Ventura, and down to San Diego, that whole strip along the southern coast.
San Diego's average weekly wage was $922. That was up just over three percent. Mann says workers in health care, biotech, and manufacturing saw the largest increases. He says service sector wages were mostly flat.
