According to a new poll by the Pew Hispanic Center, most Latinos say the immigration debate and Congress' failure to overhaul immigrations laws has hurt them.
Poll respondents say discrimination is increasingly a problem. 41-percent say they or someone close to them has been discriminate against in the last five years. That's up 21-percent since 2002.
Paul Taylor directs the Pew Hispanic Center. He says the effects are especially visible where immigration is a hot local issue.
Taylor: Latinos who live in areas where they say yes it has been a big issue and there has been stepped up enforcement on a local level, on these other questions we asked about are you personally feeling the impact and do you think things have gotten worse for Latinos, respondents who live in those communities will say yes we feel the personal impact and we think things have gotten bad.
The poll found 53 percent of Latinos worry they'll be deported -- including a third of Latinos who are U.S. citizens.
Latinos make up about 16 percent of the country's population.
