Swedish construction firm Skanska AB said Monday it has received a $68 million order from California's state department of transportation to build a new highway in the Imperial Valley.
The company said the order covers construction of a four-lane bypass on State Route 78 around Brawley, about 125 miles east of San Diego.
The new three-mile road will redirect heavy truck traffic around the town. Skanska said it includes seven bridges at traffic interchanges, railways and over the New River.
Construction is expected to start immediately and is scheduled to be complete in 22 months.
