Attorneys for the City of San Diego repeated claims in court papers today that Blackwater Worldwide's planned Navy training facility needs more review. KPBS Reporter Amita Sharma has details.
The city's lawyers say Blackwater did not file all of the appropriate paperwork to receive permits to use an Otay Mesa warehouse as an indoor training center. The attorneys contend that the private contractor never sought an okay from the city to transform the warehouse into a classroom for sailors.
Blackwater has installed a two-level simulated ship and a firing range inside a 61,000 thousand square foot facility.
The city's lawyers submitted court papers in response to a federal lawsuit filed by Blackwater. The firm wants a judge to order the city to allow it to open the training center immediately.
