The U.S. Open is not the biggest sports event that's ever been held in San Diego. The Super Bowl draws scads more people, but this will be a year of many events that boost the status of San Diego as a destination.
This week, in fact, San Diego Convention Center will play host to this year's Bio International Convention. It may sound like a bit of a bore, but it's expected to bring more than 20 thousand folks to our town. That means hotel rooms occupied, meals purchased, and so on.
The relative value of the tourism and visitors industry to San Diego is a matter of debate. But there's no question that it's one of our areas biggest sources of revenue.
