Baja Adds 10 Bilingual Agents to Attend to Tourists' Complaints

Baja California state investigators will add 10 bilingual agents to attend to tourists' complaints. The move comes as tourism in the state has dropped dramatically. KPBS Reporter Amy Isackson has the story.

Baja California Attorney General Rommel Moreno says starting July first, 10 state investigators who speak English will be available around the clock, every day of the week to take tourists' complaints.

Moreno wants tourists to know that the state is committed to investigating their complaints and is working with the City's Tourism and Conventions Committee to streamline the complaint process and make it more transparent.

The 10 bilingual agents will be stationed in Tijuana, Rosarito and Ensenada. Baja California and Tijuana officials have taken a series of measures recently to draw tourists back to the region.

The city's mayor recently launched a web page that allows tourists to file complaints about law enforcement officials.

Millions of tourists have stayed away from the border region recently due to worries about crime and long border waits. The U.S. economic slowdown has also taken a toll on tourism.
