Democrats have launched a radio ad campaign trying to tie Republican House incumbents to President Bush, while also blaming them for high gas prices. Among their targets is San Diego GOP Rep. Brian Bilbray.
The 60-second spot will run for a week in Bilbray's district and 12 others around the country where potentially vulnerable Republicans voted against Democratic energy bills.
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is spending about $100,000 on the ads.
The ad features a Bush impersonator who pretends to leave a voicemail on Bilbray's answering machine and says he appreciates Bilbray's vote to keep giving billions in tax breaks to oil companies.
In response, the National Republican Congressional Committee says an energy package that passed Congress in 2005 was supported by members of both parties.
The Republican committee also accuses the Democratic majority in Congress of casting blame for high energy prices but offering no solutions.
