San Diego city officials want the board of a neighborhood development corporation to stop defending the bonuses given to their discredited president. KPBS reporter Alison St John explains.
The board of San Diego’s Southeast Economic Development Corporation plans to meet tomorrow to discuss their president’s termination agreement, and whether she should keep more than $300 thousand in extra pay .
Carolyn Smith was fired for awarding herself generous bonuses, but the board sent her off with a generous severance package.
Darren Pudgil of the mayor’s office says the city is warning the board to wait till new board members appointed by the mayor and council take office.
Pudgill: We will be sending a memo over today to SEDC strongly urging them to refrain from taking any action on any issues.
The city attorney and a city resident have filed law suits challenging the bonuses. The board chair is also under fire for conflicts of interest.
