Supporters of California's voter approved ban on same sex marriages are blasting the state's attorney general for his decision to challenge Proposition Eight. KPBS Reporter Erik Anderson has details.
California voters ended the state's brief interlude with legal same sex marriages in November. Fifty-two percent of those casting ballots decided to amend the state's constitution to make marriage an act between a man and a woman.
State Attorney General Jerry Brown initially promised to uphold the will of the voters, but he changed his mind a month ago. Brown filed suit asking the state Supreme Court to overrule voters. He argued it is unconstitutional to use the ballot box to take away the rights of a minority group.
Proposition 8 supporters say Brown is declaring a constitutional revolution. They say the AG wants unprecedented policy making power for the courts which would overrule the people's right to determine how they'll be governed.
