The turmoil continues at Tri-City Medical Center in North County, where a bitterly divided board of directors is fighting over control. Tri-City Hospital has nearly 400 beds, and has one of the region's busiest emergency rooms. KPBS Reporter Kenny Goldberg has more.
The controversy began at a special closed door board meeting in late December. Four directors voted to temporarily remove eight top executives, including Tri-City's CEO. The board hired an accountant to conduct an investigation into the hospital's finances. The accountant was named temporary CEO. He has no previous healthcare experience.
At a public meeting last week, audience members blasted the board. Three directors who disagreed with the board's actions said December's meeting violated the state's open meeting law.
The displaced Tri-City executives have hired an attorney.
The Tri-City Hospital District has failed three times to get voters to approve a bond to modernize the facility.
