Maureen Cavanaugh: Our image of Miquel Cervantes famous hero Don Quixote comes in many forms from popular culture. We see an old nobleman on a horse attacking windmills, or riding with his faithful servant, Sancho Panza. Or maybe we remember an actor on stage, singing the Impossible Dream from the musical Man of La Mancha .
But the story of Don Quioxte presented in the ppera by Jules Massenet is richer and deeper than the story you might remember from pop culture. A new production of Massenet's Don Quioxte is about to open at the San Diego Opera. Here with me to discuss the story, and listen to the music are the director and its lead performer.
The San Diego Opera's production of Don Quixote begins on Saturday, February 14th and runs for four nights. Go to sdopera.com for more information.
