Destination Lindbergh Plan Moves to Airport Authority

The regional committee formed to help develop a plan for the future of Lindbergh Field offered its final recommendation today/ Thursday. But whether the plan will result in any action is uncertain. KPBS reporter Katie Orr has details.

The Ad Hoc Airport Regional Policy Committee has been working on its concept, known as “ Destination Lindbergh ” for the past year. During the group’s final meeting, members raised questions about what the next step in the process will be. San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders heads up the committee.

Sanders: Now, it’s important for everyone to go back to their respective agencies, get this approved. And then there will be another working group to work with the Airport Authority on what actually comes out of this in the future.

The Authority will consider the concept at its March meeting. In the meantime the airport will move ahead with plans to add ten gates to Terminal two and make airport access roads double- decked. The Destination Lindbergh plan envisions moving most operations to the airport’s north side. The renovation is expected to cost between 5 and 11 billion dollars depending on inflation.
