Sixteen motorists were arrested on suspicion of drunken driving during a checkpoint operation in downtown San Diego that concluded early Wednesday, police said.
The operation was held from 11 p.m. Tuesday to 3 a.m. Wednesday in the 1400 block of G Street, according to San Diego police, who staged the operation not far from where the annual San Diego Mardi Gras block party was held in the Gaslamp Quarter.
Thousands of "Fat Tuesday" revelers turned out for a night of food and drink, live music and a New Orleans-style parade.
