New Year’s Eve is almost here and that means San Diego will have its share of fancy dinners, harbor cruises and block parties. But if you’re looking for a weekend event that’s more arts-friendly, here are some options.

John Legend's A Legendary Christmas

John Legend recently became an EGOT - a person with an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony. So if he still wants to celebrate Christmas the weekend before New Year's Eve, we'll comply.

His Legendary Christmas Tour is an old fashioned holiday extravaganza complete with a full jazz band and backup singers. Expect the musician to perform original songs plus newly arranged Christmas classics like "Silver Bells" and "Merry Christmas Baby."

Details: 8 p.m. Sunday. San Diego Civic Theatre, 1100 Third Ave., downtown. $59 to $250; find tickets to A Legendary Christmas.

X and Los Lobos

Also happening the night before New Year’s Eve is a concert by iconic Los Angeles bands X and Los Lobos.

Headlining the show will be X, a band that was from L.A.'s 1970s punk scene. It features John Doe, Exene Cervenka, Billy Zoom and DJ Bonebrake playing hits like "Los Angeles" and "White Girl."

Second on the bill is Los Lobos, a band from East L.A. that also formed in the 1970s and fuses its Latin and rock influences. Los Lobos gained international stardom when it was featured on the "La Bamba" soundtrack.

Dave Alvin's punk outfit, The Blasters will also perform.

Details: 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The Observatory, 2891 University Ave, North Park. $35; find tickets to X and Los Lobos.

Soirée On The Bay

For something that’s actually happening on New Year’s Eve, check out Soirée On The Bay put on by the local music collective, The Redwoods.

It’s headlined by Dani Bell and the Tarantist, a local band that performs a modern kind of psychedelic rock. Also performing is another local favorite, The Midnight Pine, a band with a soulful bluesy vibe.

The event features other bands from The Redwoods label, and the party happens at the Loews Coronado where there will be multiple rooms of entertainment, two balloon drops and a sugar bar.

Details: 7 p.m. Monday. Loews Coronado Bay Resort, 4000 Coronado Bay Road, Coronado. $50 to $145; find tickets to Soirée On The Bay.
