San Diego Is Now Home To A Michelin-Starred Restaurant

Addison at the Fairmont Grand Del Mar became the first San Diego restaurant to be awarded a prestigious Michelin star.

San Diego is officially a Michelin-star destination.

This week, Addison, a contemporary French fine dining restaurant at the Fairmont Grand Del Mar, became the first in San Diego to be awarded a prestigious Michelin star.

Some have said it's long overdue. Others are surprised by Michelin's single-star designation.

Either way, it's been a big week for San Diego's culinary scene. On Tuesday, Michelin recognized eight other local eateries with it's "Bib Gourmand" rating for more affordable "hidden-gem" restaurants.

Michele Parente, who covers food and dining for The San Diego Union-Tribune, joined Midday Edition to talk about the value of a Michelin star and what it means for San Diego.
