Actor John Leguizamo co-wrote "Kiss My Aztec!," a musical that uses humor to tell the story of a group of Aztecs who are leading the resistance against Spanish invaders in the 16th century.

Actor John Leguizamo is back at the La Jolla Playhouse. This time it's with a musical.

"Kiss My Aztec!" uses humor to tell the story of a group of Aztecs leading the resistance against Spanish invaders in the 16th-century.

"I think the best way to get information out is to smuggle it in a joke. I think it's the best way to get people to want to listen to things that they don't really want to listen to," Leguizamo said.

Director Tony Taccone co-wrote the musical with Leguizamo.

They both join KPBS Midday on Tuesday to discuss what they hope audiences take away from the piece.

"Kiss My Aztec!" runs through October 13 at the La Jolla Playhouse.
