New Oceanside Vaccination Site Has The National Guard Delivering Shots

A new COVID-19 vaccination site is opening in Oceanside Tuesday at the North Coastal Health and Human Services Facility.

This is one can delivery up to 700 vaccines per day and is located in the 92058 ZIP code, identified by the state as being disproportionately impacted by the pandemic.

"This is in the middle of a Latino community," said Oceanside Mayor Esther Sanchez. "Two Latino communities will be able to walk here that would be the Crown Heights community and also Eastside."

Sanchez unveiled the new site Monday along with San Diego County Supervisor Jim Desmond.

"This clinic is going to play a vital role in vaccine distribution to one of the communities hardest hit by COVID-19," Desmond said during a news conference.

Instead of nurses or firefighters, California National Guard medics will be vaccinating residents in Oceanside.

"I’m here with a small team of about 13 members and we have medics and administrative personnel all here to help assist with the vaccination efforts and hopefully bring this to an end," said Chief Warrant Officer Brandon Warren.

The site officially opens on Tuesday, as officials are making plans to open an even larger vaccination site in Carlsbad.

"We're also working on a super center at Carlsbad mall," Warren said. "We’re continuing to work to ensure that everyone in North County is vaccinated."

The new Oceanside site replaces a smaller one in the city at the North Coastal Live Well Center.

This week millions of California adults with underlying medical conditions become eligible for vaccinations. Those conditions includes cancer, chronic kidney disease, pregnancy, heart conditions and severe obesity.

County officials are warning that appointments might be hard to find online. They say this new Oceanside site will have some appointments set aside solely for those living in the 92058 ZIP code.
