Are these the final days of Gavin Newsom’s political career? The California governor is hoping he can bank on recent polling that shows a majority of voters will allow him to keep his job in the Sept. 14 recall election.

KQED’s Marisa Lagos has covered the recall effort from the start and joins us for an update on Newsom's strategy in the campaign's closing days.

Newsom’s Opponents

Early in the recall effort, it appeared the top challengers would be former San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer or 2018 challenger John Cox. But now, polls show talk radio host Larry Elder might have the backing of most recall supporters. L.A. Times columnist Jean Guerrero has written extensively about Elder and his extremist views as conservatives try to regain control of the nation's biggest state.
