You've probably seen the photography of Julius Shulman, even if you didn't know it was his work. His images of modern buildings and homes became the visual touchstone of modernism. On Friday, you can see Shulman's photography on the big screen as the new documentary "Visual Acoustics: The Modernism of Julius Shulman" opens at Landmark's Ken Cinema (for one week only!).
Shulman actually photographed here in San Diego. Culture Lust and Modern San Diego have banded together to offer you a special treat: a rare glimpse at Shulman's San Diego images. After Friday's 7:30pm screening of "Visual Acoustics," Modern San Diego's Keith York will present a slide show of the images Shulman made right here in San Diego county.
York collaborated with Shulman in 2004 to catalog his San Diego work and publish a 2005 calendar highlighting images found in the archive. Many of the photos York will present have not been published or viewed in decades.
You can buy advance tickets for the 7:30pm screening of "Visual Acoustics: The Modernism of Julius Shulman" here. Join us on Friday and start the New Year off with an evening of film, architecture, and photography.
