West Coast Drawing defines drawing as “any two-dimensional expression that goes on dry or with a stick,” but two dimensions don’t stop the upcoming exhibit Intimate Views from being multi-dimensional in other ways. Abstract and inspirational, the exhibit opens this Saturday at the Oceanside Museum of Art.
Help Sezio toast to their 2-year status as one of the local art world’s tastemakers with a block party this Saturday. The night begins at Subtext, where the walls will be lined with (almost) every artist who’s been featured on the collective, and continues at The Casbah (who’s co-sponsoring the event) with performances by Writer, Cuckoo Chaos, Trouble in the Wind, and Knorphus. The Salon des Indépendants is alive and well at the San Diego Museum of Art this Thursday night, as the museum continues its ongoing nod to Toulouse-Lautrec’s forthcoming exhibit with their version of the famed salon, this weekend starring Sheryl Oring and her portable typewriter. We told you about Lux’s latest resident artist, Sati Zech, last week, and this Saturday afternoon, you can take a gander at her brilliant tapestries (for free!) and catch some live music and refreshments, to boot. It’s all happening from 11-3.
The formative Richard Allen Morris has a rich local history, and this weekend, he’ll debut his newest work in “Patch & Paint,” on display at the R.B. Stevenson Gallery. Visit the show’s opening reception from 5-8 Friday night and you can meet him.
Another must-hit exhibition opening this weekend is at the Quint, who’s “Double Up Double Up” explores the concept of repetition in mind-bending (and often poignant) ways. A reception will be held Saturday night from 6-8.

In case you haven’t heard, a little thing called the World Cup begins this Friday (at 7 a.m.!). Not a morning person? Head to The Linkery for a battle of gastronomic proportions as the North Park eatery stages its World Cup of Football and Sausages, which slings national dishes against each other in a tasty fight to the death (of your diet, that is). They’ll be screening the games, too.

Recycle while perusing for that elusive first edition at the Center for Jewish Culture’s Used Book Sale, which kicked off yesterday and runs ‘till Sunday. Rumor has it an autograph or two (or three!) are afloat midst the shelves, so we recommend heading up to JCC’s La Jolla HQ, pronto.
THEATER
Loss, love and a trip to Hades are explored this month at MOXIE. Sarah Ruhl’s play, "Eurydice," tells the traditional myth of Orpheus, through the eyes of his dead wife. "Eurydice," previews this Saturday at 8 p.m. and will be playing from the 18th through the 27th.
This Monday night at 7:30 head on over to the Avo Playhouse to watch local “celebrities” (including young musicians, students, professional actors and an award-winning playwrights) bring life to Shakespeare’s sonnets. "Celebrity Sonnets," is brought to us by the San Diego Shakespeare Society and Moonlight’s Cultural Foundation. It's free!
Let the royal trumpets sound, Queen Marion Ross has entered The Old Globe – she’ll be assuming the role of another regal lady, Queen Elizabeth (who else?) as part of their 75th annual Shakespeare fest, which starts this Saturday with an open house from 9:30 to 2pm. The ex-“Happy Days” doyenne will preside over events such as costume displays, sword fighting demos, Elizabethan dances, and more.
Father’s Day may still be a weekend away, but celebrate the ‘rents early at the Old Town Theater next Monday night at 7 with Write Out Loud’s “The Ties That Bind – Stories of Mothers and Fathers,” featuring tales from Jincy Willet, Lara Vapnyar, Billy Collins, and more.

Last February, NPR picked April Smith and the Great Picture Show’s song “Colors” as their Song of the Day. Lucky for us, April and co. have extended their U.S. tour and are playing this Wednesday at Lestats! Show begins at 8:00 p.m.
Mexican Norteño group Los Tigres del Norte are famed for pulling in crowds of U2-like proportions, and were recently profiled by The New Yorker for their accordian-laced takes on immigration and border anxiety. They also describe their live performances not as concerts, but "as dances." Need more reasons to head to the Del Mar Fair this Sunday to see ‘em live? Didn’t think so, but just in case, we hear fried butter is included in the fair’s menu this year. You heard us. Fried. Butter.
Visit Cuyamaca College’s brand-new theater tomorrow night to catch the Kruger Brothers and Doyle Dykes strum away. Their performance is thanks to collaboration between local heavy-hitters Taylor Guitars and the Deering Banjo Company, who will donate proceeds from the performance to support the industrial arts programs in East County.
Julian Waterfall Pollack and his trio will visit Dizzy’s this Saturday to toast to the release of their latest album, “Infinite Playground.” Can’t make it? Stop by the venue on Sunday night to hum along to 10 of S.D.'s best trombonists, like Jack Teagarden and Glen Miller, who will perform as part of Dizzy’s Bonefest.
The San Diego Youth Symphony will pay tribute to Chelsea King this Saturday with a special performance of Tchaikovsky’s “1812 Overture,” chosen because it’s “as dynamic, vibrant, and beautiful as Chelsea was,” symphony representatives say. Agreed.
