Adorable Zoe McKellar-Mullen as Little Miss Muffet.
When I originally asked readers to submit photographs of their Halloween costumes to Culture Lust, I included two photos of kids costumes. One of them, was our KPBS film critic Beth Accomando as a young princess in pink. For the zombie, horror-loving Beth, who would rather sport bloody entrails, this was torturous (she was kind enough to surrender the girlie goods).
I love kids costumes. I can't get enough baby ducks and pumpkins, and little cowboys. San Diegans have sent in some great kids costumes over the last few days, many of them homemade. Consider this the Extra Cute Edition of our Halloween series.
There's still time to see your Halloween costume on Culture Lust! Send your pics to acarone@kpbs.org.
Sara Morrison and her son Thomas Eliot Morrison as Max and a Wild Thing.
KPBS staffer Leng Caloh sent me this picture of her two-year-old daughter Nani, who wanted to go as her cat Frankie for Halloween. Leng and her partner Lisa made the costume, hand-painting all of the orange stripes.
Ruby Belfer as Princess Leia. See Ruby's dad here and look for her mom in costume tomorrow. Full disclosure: I took this picture.
Renee Owens sent me a number of her childhood costumes and they are too cute to not share. This is her and her brother Derek as bugs. Renee wrote in her email: "Why my parents always had us stuff our costumes with pillows to look fat, I'll never know, but when I was a butterfly, that IS a pillow in my costume."
Renee Owens as an elephant in 1975. "As a kid, my Mom sewed elaborate costumes, while my Dad (the art teacher) often made a head piece to go with it. Of course, my parents felt the need to match my brother and I - until we were old enough to protest. My first year, I was 7 months old and I went as a carrot (I have red hair), and my 2 yr old brother was a bunny. You get the idea."
Renee Owens was a dragon when she was 5 years old. "My brother was a silver knight with feather plumes on the top of his helmet. I won 'most creative' costume, while my brother was awarded 'prettiest'."
Derek Owens (Renee's brother) as a clown. Renee writes, "I think he was really NOT happy with being a clown (not cool enough), no makeup needed for the frown."
