FBI officials and their Mexican counterparts are searching on both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border for the gunman who killed a U.S. Border Patrol agent in Campo Thursday night. The agent was shot on patrol.
Border Patrol officials say agent Robert Rosas responded to a call about a group of people supposedly trying to sneak across the border around nine Thursday evening.
Officials say shortly after, other agents in the area heard gunshots. They tried to radio Rosas. He didn't answer. Officials say agents raced to where he was and they found him down, with at least one gunshot in the head. Officials say Rosas died there.
Kieth Slotter heads the FBI in San Diego. He says it's not clear how many gunmen there were, but at least one may have been wounded. "We are certainly looking for public assistance on both sides of the border, would be any individuals who received treatment for a suspicious injury from a hospital, clinic, doctor."
The FBI is offering $100,000 for information that leads to an arrest.
